With the addition of the event, we were introduced to a wide variety of new items. Unlike other seasonal events, FBG have chosen to also create a new inventory section called "Whitsun" (analogous to Book, or Nostalgia), which holds various "not-equipable" items (and also some things which look and behave like qualities).
Traditionally, the wiki has organized event-specific equipable items under categories called "Christmas Items", "Election Items", etc. But we also needed a way to differentiate the new Companions/Hats etc. from the non-equipable Whitsun Items (e.g. Aged Egg, Untreated).
See discussion here.
In short, we've decided that the equipable items will be under Category:Whitsun Equipment, and the non-equipable items under Category:Wh…Read more >
If you are an editor of this wiki, you may have come across a situation when you have played the game and just did something that updated a quality that you forgot to update its wiki entry for.
For example, you have done something that increases the level of a quality. The quality has descriptions that change according to its levels. You forgot to update the description of the previous level on the wiki before it is increased for your character.
There is a way to salvage this if you are a Firefox user. You can close the tab that you were using to play Fallen London, and then reopen it back using Ctrl+Shift+T. This brings back the window, but with data from your browser's cache prior to whatever you did before you updated the quality. You sho…Read more >

For a long time, I've wanted to see if there's some way to automatically create the items lists one might find in Category:Hat, or in Persuasive Items.

The way it works today, is that whenever there'a s new item in the game, besides creating for it a new Item page (with the template), the following steps are needed:
- For each of the effects of the item, go to the relevant effect's "Items" page.
- In the relevant section ("Hat", "Boots", etc.), insert a new line for the item, listing all its effects in parenthesis, remembering to re-order so that the current page's quality is at the start of t…

You cannot call yourself a proper member of Fallen London society if you have not gone out of your way to purchase an incredible number of weasels and played charades with them. It is unfortunate that you cannot do this action many, many times over. I would pay FATE in order to be able to play charades with 400 weasels whenever I wanted. It would be great fun.Read more >
You may have noticed that we have updated our header image recently. About six years after the game has been renamed "Fallen London", we too have finally acknowledged that fact.
With the Fallen London redesign close to release, we are considering also updating the wiki layout a little. I have prepared a new colour scheme that consists of colours actually used for the game. With the new palette, the site will looks like this:

If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please let us know.
Unless a majority of wiki users is opposed to this, we will make the switch in about a week.

There are several qualities in the game for which you can have a value per specific characters.
For example, Offering to Aid a Wounded Friend can have different values for different characters to whom you've sent a help offer.
For the most part, we're using the / templates with extra explicit text to show changes to these, e.g.:
- --> Loitering [you] (+1)
The actual formatting can be tweaked if we want, but once all such usages are converted, changing the format will be done once in these templates, to affect all pages with a consistent format.Read more >
I've made a few updates to the way Qualities are recorded in the wiki. This is still a work in progress, so I'd like to explain my direction and get some feedback before committing to the next steps, which will involve lots of changes.
Currently, if you look at a page which uses some quality (e.g. A campaign of intimidation), you'll see two links called "A Neddy Man":
- At the "Unlocked with" line at the top, this link is to A Neddy Man - the quality (or item!) required. This is also the link used when gaining/losing said item/quality.
- At the bottom of the page, among all page categorizes, there's a link to Category:A Neddy Man.

I find the table at Hours before the Deadline to be less useful than it could be. Currently, it includes all options to advance this quality, but there are three different methods:
- Via Storylets in Doubt Street (you choose between two options - each progresses one of the three newspaper qualities)
- Via opportunity cards (each card advances one newspaper quality)
- Via Social Action opportunity cards (send to someone with an Ambition different than your own; advances all 3 qualities)
Putting all this in a single table seems visually confusing, so I've created alternatives which can be viewed here.
This test page includes two styles for displaying the storlyet options in a table, and two styles for the cards.

This blog post is to help me articulate the wiki implications of recent game changes, to solicit feedback and advice from other wiki editors.
With the recent Return to Court, there are new options to create various artistic works. All the old works are still an option.
HOWEVER, there is an inconsistency as to how the wiki presents the old vs. new options of originally available works.
Mechanically speaking, all the storylets/options at Court have been replaced with almost exact duplicates. e.g.:
- What's your next work? 1 requires not having
- What's your next work? 3 requires having
The same goes for all the options to raise Inspired..., e.g. The lead (though currently we haven't duplicated all of these storylets/options). They all look and behave …

The ones I've found have been [Commonplace] (low-tier or grindable items), [Scarce] (low-middling tier items), [Coveted] (middling-high tier items), [Rare] (things that take a good deal of work to get, or that you can only get a few times) and [Precious] (things that take an enormous amount of work to get, or that can only be attained once).
There are also some odd ones, like the fact that the Bengal Tigress is [Commonplace]. Who knew! Perhaps it's because she's buyable.Read more >

I've been away for a few years. 2012 was the last time I played Fallen London.
I'm realizing that the game might be a little more fun if I had some background information on it. I have a tendency to follow a multitude of quests and story lines all at once and the result is that I can't keep track of where I am in any of them. :-)
It might be helpful if I look for the back story for the game to see what the objectives are. Perhaps if I set a goal in one story line and saw it all the way through to the end I might get somewhere. My gaming life is much like my real life: bumbling about, hoping for the best.

As watchful eyes on the forums and here on the wiki have spotted, the hedonist option on the Give a Gift! A commotion in the Square of Lofty Words card has changed.

In my attempt to reduce amount excessive text due to word count limit, I decided to suggest a symbol, as "[...]" method wastes 5 word. Unfortunately, it looks like a symbol for "omission" don't exist, so I decided to settle with symbols in this wiki :

Recently I've been using different actions that change The Airs of London, mainly in the Time in bed storylet in my Lodgings, but also in other places. In my ongoing search for RL references and inspiration in FL (cue theme from The Surprising Adventures of Sir Digby Chicken Caesar) I've stumbled on the Whispers from the Surface: The Great Game card. The Watcher profession option has the line "They also serve who only stand and watch."
That is the last line in John Milton's On His Blindness sonnet. While the sonnet itself deals with religious feelings and the search for meaning in life, in has some ideas that settle well with FL. The first lines of the sonnet are quite relevant to FL:

They both dress the same, have an unnerving ability to appear anywhere, both are clearly members of high society but mingle with anyone useful anywhere that suits them (from Mahogany Hall to Haymaker Road in Fallen London, and from The Patrician Palace to Treacle Mine Road in Night Watch), both have some connection to death (watching executions here, actively employing assassins there) and both are cryptic with the mannerism of a puppe…Read more >
